Practice ACTs and SATs–take ’em now!

Now that high school is somewhat underway, another thing you can be doing to prepare for college at this point is taking a practice ACT or SAT test. If your student is a junior or a senior, make sure he or she takes advantage of the practice tests that are available in your area.

For example, College Nannies, Sitters and Tutors is offering several upcoming practice test dates throughout the fall:

Sept. 15 — 8am

Oct. 13 — 8am

Nov. 17 — 8am

Dec. 15 — 8am

Register for one or more dates, or visit College Nannies, Sitters and Tutors in Powell or New Albany for more information.

If your student is a sophomore or a junior, you can also have him or her up for the PSAT in October–which is different than one of the above practice tests. The PSAT actually stands for the “Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test,” and it’s used to to determine eligibility for the National Merit Scholarship Program.

While it also can be used as a practice test, it is only offered once a year. Check with your child’s school about when the PSAT will be available to take. The primary date is Oct. 10, but some high schools are offering them on alternate dates, such as Oct. 13 and Oct 24.
